  • Budget Hotel (1 Platinum Award, 1 Gold Award)

One platinum award and one gold award will be presented in each sub-category, making it a total of 8 award recipients in the Accommodation category.

Hotels located in Kuala Lumpur and have achieved the relevant star rating as determined by the Ministry of Tourism Malaysia, will be eligible for nomination. Nominees will be shortlisted according to the submission documentation and the final judging sessions may include site visits and even over-night stays by the judges.

DINING

  • Fine Dining Restaurant (1 Platinum Award, 1 Gold Award)
  • Home Grown Restaurant (1 Platinum Award, 1 Gold Award)
  • Food Court / Food Centre (1 Platinum Award, 1 Gold Award)

The Dining category will look at restaurants and eating establishments that contribute towards positioning Kuala Lumpur as an international gastronomic destination. The eateries must be appealing to the tourist market and provide a unique and memorable dining experience.

Fine Dining
Restaurants that demonstrate the highest level of excellence and competency in the preparation and presentation of food, the drinks selection, the service, and premise attractiveness.

Homegrown
‘Made in Malaysia’ restaurants that embody the multi-cultural, multi-ethnic Malaysian gastronomic spirit, whether traditional, modern or progressive, and inclusive rather than exclusive.

Foodcourts
A managed facility indoor or outdoor where vendors come together to offer a wide variety of food and drinks at accessible prices.

TOURIST ATTRACTION

  • Culture, Arts & Heritage (1 Platinum Award, 1 Gold Award)

Nominees for the Family Entertainment sub-category will include theme parks and edutainment centres located within Kuala Lumpur city. These are places of interest to tourists that offer activities and entertainment for the whole family whether during the day or at night. Judges will be looking at the uniqueness of the experience provided as well as the level of service excellence achieved.

The sub-category for Culture, Arts & Heritage will include tourist attractions that promote the variety of Malaysian arts including performing arts and fine arts, cultural aspects of Malaysian society and Malaysia’s or Kuala Lumpur’s heritage. Nominees for this category would include museums, galleries, theatres and even heritage sites.

SHOPPING MALL

This award category is for shopping and retail centres that offer shoppers a holistic experience and contribute towards making Kuala Lumpur a very trendy shopping destination.

Nominees will be made up of malls and shopping centres located in Kuala Lumpur. Judges will take into consideration the mall or centre’s design, retail mix, operational and marketing excellence.

MEDICAL TOURISM

This category will present awards to the most outstanding healthcare and medical service provider in Kuala Lumpur. The panel of judges will focus on the best quality and safe practices in the treatment and care management of travelling international patients. The hospital’s overall facilities, level of service, operations and marketing will also be considered in determining the most deserving award recipient.

EDUCATION TOURSIM

The Education Tourism category is a newest category to be introduced in this third edition of the Kuala Lumpur Mayor’s Tourism Awards programme. The nominees will include colleges, university-colleges, universities and other institutions of higher learning in Kuala Lumpur that offer quality courses for international students.

The panel of judges will be taking into consideration the variety of courses offered, the level of accreditation for these courses, the facilities available for students and the appeal to international students. Consideration will also be given to the operations and marketing activities of the nominee.

MAYOR'S COMMENDABLE AWARD

  • Front Liners (3 Merit Awards)
  • Outstanding Contribution (1 Merit Award)

The Mayor’s Commendable Award for Front Liners is to identify and recognize individuals who have gone over and above the usual call of duty to assist or provide services to tourists that make their visit to the city a special one. Nominees in this category would include tour guides, taxi drivers, waiters, hotel front desk personnel, concierge personnel, information counter staff and other similar front line positions.

The Mayor’s Commendable Award for Outstanding Contribution will honour an individual who has made a lifelong contribution to the development and growth of the Kuala Lumpur tourism industry.
